Assessment Studies of Generated Mobility

Assessment Studies of Generated Mobility are drawn up according to Law 9/2003 of 13th of June, on mobility and their development follows Decree 344/2006 of 19th of September, on regulation of studies of generated mobility, where specific content of these studies and their processing is detailed.

The adopting of Decree 344/2006 of 19th of September, considering the regulation of studies of generated mobility, mean establishing the need for an integrated land use planning and mobility.

These studies are intended to assess the potential increase of displacements caused by a new plan or an introduction of new activities and the absorption capacity of the road services ant the transportation systems, including transport system of low or no impact such as walking or cycling.

Moreover, the objective of the Assessment Studies of Generated Mobility is to define measures and actions necessary to ensure that the new generated mobility in the study area follows guidelines characterized by the preponderance of more sustainable means of transportation, and so fulfil with the mobility shift promoted by Law 9/2003 of 13th of June on mobility.

In fact, among the principles and objectives of the Law 9/2003 on mobility not only is mentioned the need to minimize the environmental impact of mobility, but also to relate land use planning with the supply of public transport. More specifically, one of the objectives of the Law states that planning policies, infrastructures and transport services should be analysed with sustainable criteria as well as rationalizes the use of road space.
